Write a ReviewAbout The Precinct
The Precinct is a premier innovation hub located in the historic TC Beirne building in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, Australia. Established in 2017 as a Queensland government-backed initiative, it serves as a dynamic ecosystem fostering collaboration among startups, scaleups, government entities, industry leaders, and investors. The Precinct's core mission is to champion innovation in Queensland by providing a supportive environment where ambitious ideas can be transformed into thriving businesses. It offers a comprehensive range of facilities and programs designed to support entrepreneurs at every stage of their business journey, from pre-ideation to global market penetration.
At its expansive 8000mยฒ facility, The Precinct provides flexible coworking desks, private offices of varying sizes, numerous meeting rooms, and four event spaces capable of accommodating nearly 400 people. These spaces are complemented by essential amenities such as high-speed Wi-Fi, lounge areas, and complimentary coffee and tea, creating a conducive environment for creativity and productivity. The hub is particularly renowned for its strong community and events layer, hosting over 600 events annually, including pitch nights, demo days, workshops, and networking sessions, which facilitate crucial connections and knowledge sharing within the innovation ecosystem.
Since March 1, 2024, The Precinct has been managed by CoSpaces, with a leadership team including Director Ben Howe, COO Ariana Margetts, and Director of Programs Dren Xerxa, who oversee its commercial operations and program delivery. The Queensland Government initially invested $6 million from its Advance Queensland initiative to establish The Precinct. A key differentiator is its 'Landing Pad' program, which offers free drop-in desks and Wi-Fi for eligible early-stage startups, further lowering barriers to entry for emerging founders.
Over the years, The Precinct has achieved significant milestones, including attracting notable tenants and partners that contribute to its vibrant ecosystem. Foundation tenants have included River City Labs, CSIRO's Data61, eHealth Queensland, and Softbank Technologies. More recently, in 2024, Sydney-based technology investment firm Tidal Ventures established its Queensland headquarters at The Precinct, actively engaging with over 200 local founders within its first 60 days. Global early-stage venture capital firm Antler also accelerated its plans to launch its 13th Australian residency at The Precinct in 2025. These achievements underscore The Precinct's role as a critical nexus for investment and entrepreneurial talent in Queensland's rapidly expanding innovation landscape, particularly in sectors like healthtech, medtech, AI, and XR.
