Write a ReviewAbout The Commons
The Commons is a leading Australian coworking provider established in Melbourne, committed to redefining modern workspaces through a focus on community, well-being, and considered design. Founded in 2016 by school friends Cliff Ho and Tom Ye, what began as a modest "side hustle" with an inaugural location in Collingwood utilising repurposed shipping containers, quickly evolved into a dynamic network of creative office solutions. Their mission extends beyond providing physical space, aiming to foster environments where individuals and businesses can truly flourish through collaboration and human-centred thinking.
Since its inception, The Commons has expanded significantly, now boasting 15 locations across Melbourne and Sydney. A testament to its commitment to ethical business practices and an outstanding work culture, the entity was honoured with B Corp Certification and Great Place to Work Certification in 2021. This expansion includes key sites like South Melbourne, Melbourne CBD, and Cremorne, a vibrant tech hub. In 2023, The Commons further diversified its offerings by launching its first Commons Coffee, creating unique dining and reading experiences for members and the public alike.
A key differentiator for The Commons is its strong emphasis on sustainability and holistic well-being. The company proactively offsets its carbon footprint by investing in 100 per cent renewable energy and implements eco-conscious practices such as comprehensive recycling and composting. Their spaces are thoughtfully designed to encourage incidental networking and a healthy work-life integration, featuring amenities such as spin cycle studios, quiet libraries, outdoor terraces, and even dog-friendly policies. Looking to the future, The Commons is embarking on a bold expansion into integrated wellness, with the launch of The Commons Health Club in Richmond (September 2025) and South Yarra (January 2026), blending productivity with comprehensive health and recovery offerings.
The Commons actively supports the wider community through its impactful scholarship program, which provides memberships to not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises. This initiative has contributed over $1 million to various worthy causes, including The Global Women's Project and Who Gives A Crap, reinforcing their dedication to positive societal change. Under the leadership of co-founder and CEO Cliff Ho, alongside Tom Ye, The Commons continues to challenge conventional workplace norms, striving to create inspiring environments where diverse professionals can connect, grow, and achieve their full potential.
