They provide crucial infrastructure, including state-of-the-art laboratory, engineering, and office spaces, aiming to bridge the gap in affordable, specialised facilities for early-stage companies and researchers. CoLabs operates from three facilities in Brunswick and an advanced transdisciplinary innovation hub in Notting Hill, with strategic plans for expansion into Sydney and Brisbane in the coming year. Their offerings extend beyond physical space to include essential equipment, waste management services, and valuable support in research and development, equipment sourcing, and crucial connections to investors and academic partners.

Born from a profound awareness of the ecological impacts stemming from traditional economic models and competitive business practices, particularly in the wake of the 2019 bushfires and 2020 COVID lockdowns, CoLabs emerged with a mission to redefine how we innovate. The founders envisioned an opportunity to cultivate positive change by reimagining collaboration and value creation through science and technology. This led to their foundational commitment to supporting impact-driven research and development, complemented by educational programs focused on STEM capabilities, critical thinking, and eco-literacy, all underpinned by an unwavering commitment to their 'business unusual' principles.

What sets CoLabs apart is its dedication to a circular, bio-based, and regenerative economy, acting as a social enterprise that actively supports planet-positive initiatives. The leadership team includes Co-Founders Samuel Wines and Andrew Gray, supported by Jan Bjelic as the Strategy and Operations Lead and Hilary McKie as the Lab and Operations Coordinator.
