What Founders Think of Swinburne Accelerator (1)

Verified Founder - Using their service

Programs are a little tedious at time but this is really the same with all accelerators. They enable founders to access non-dilutive funding. There isn't a clear pathway for accelerator founders to access SVL though.

About Swinburne Accelerator

The Swinburne Accelerator, now known as the Swinburne Elevate Program, is a prominent accelerator based in Melbourne, Australia, operating under the umbrella of the Swinburne Innovation Studio. Launched in 2019 by the Swinburne Innovation Precinct, its core mission is to empower startups to gain early market traction, achieve product-market fit, and scale their ventures effectively. The program provides an intensive 12-week curriculum designed to equip founders with the necessary skills and resources for rapid growth and investment readiness.

The Elevate Program serves mid-stage startups that have a launched Minimum Viable Product (MVP), product, or service, alongside early customer validation or a well-defined go-to-market strategy. It specifically targets founders who are prepared to convert traction into scalable growth and secure investment. While historically focused on Swinburne students, staff, and alumni, the program also welcomes external startups developing solutions aligned with Swinburne's research strengths, including climate, advanced manufacturing, health and MedTech, space, aerospace, and artificial intelligence. Participants benefit from up to $10,000 in equity-free funding and an additional $10,000 in credits for essential financial and legal services, alongside up to three months of rent-free co-working space at Swinburne's Hawthorn campus.

What truly differentiates the Swinburne Elevate Program is its deep integration with Swinburne University of Technology's academic and research ecosystem. It offers hands-on coaching, bespoke masterclasses led by industry experts, and direct access to world-leading academics, mentors, and investors. The program fosters a collaborative environment within a high-calibre founder cohort, emphasising in-person engagement to maximise learning and networking opportunities. This strong university connection allows startups to leverage cutting-edge research and expertise, driving significant social impact. The Innovation Studio also offers earlier-stage programs like Initiate and Luminate, creating a comprehensive pathway for entrepreneurial development.

Under the leadership of Dr Werner van der Merwe, Vice President of Innovation and Enterprise, and Abhay Seth, Director of Commercial Innovation, the Swinburne Innovation Studio has a proven track record of nurturing successful ventures. Notable alumni include Little Green Panda, which has sold over 3.1 million compostable straws, and Milkdrop, which successfully launched its first product in Australia. Other successes include Fluency, an automated documentation platform, Juno Healthcare, a personalised healthcare platform, and mDetect, which spun out research into a technology for visualising underground conditions. These achievements underscore the program's effectiveness in transforming innovative ideas into commercially viable and impactful businesses.
