About Microsoft
Microsoft, through its comprehensive 'Microsoft for Startups' initiative, operates as a global support program designed to empower early-stage software companies. While not a traditional, equity-taking accelerator with fixed cohorts, it provides extensive, accelerator-like benefits to help founders build, scale, and sell their solutions more effectively. The program focuses on companies developing cloud-based software solutions, particularly those leveraging artificial intelligence (AI).
Its offerings are structured into two primary paths: an Azure Startup Credit Offer for all eligible startups, and an Investor Offer for those affiliated with the Microsoft for Startups Investor Network. This dual-track approach ensures access to vital resources regardless of a startup's funding status. A core differentiator is the unparalleled access to Microsoft's vast enterprise network, facilitating co-selling opportunities and introductions to key Vice Presidents and technical experts.
The initiative evolved from the Microsoft BizSpark program, which concluded in February 2018. Since then, it has consistently adapted its offerings to meet the evolving needs of the startup ecosystem. A significant restructuring occurred in July 2025, streamlining operations under the 'Microsoft for Startups' brand and retiring the 'Founders Hub' name for the core program, although partner programs and some resources may still use the term. Notable leadership involved in guiding the program includes Shish Shridhar, Global Director, and Heena Purohit, Director of AI Startups.
Microsoft for Startups provides substantial technological advantages, including up to USD$150,000 in Azure credits for investor-backed startups and up to USD$5,000 for others, alongside free access to advanced AI models like OpenAI GPT-4, GitHub Enterprise, Visual Studio, and Microsoft 365. Beyond technology, it offers 1:1 technical advisory, business and sales support, and curated training to ensure startups are enterprise-ready. The program's graduates have collectively raised over $3 billion in venture capital, highlighting its significant impact on fostering successful startup growth and market penetration.
