About Melbourne Accelerator Program (MAP)
The Melbourne Accelerator Program (MAP) is a prominent startup accelerator based in Melbourne, Australia, powered by the University of Melbourne. Established in 2012, it holds the distinction of being Australia's first university-run startup accelerator and was globally recognised in 2016 as the 8th best university-aligned accelerator. MAP is dedicated to fostering a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in Victoria by supporting high-growth, early-stage startups through comprehensive equity-free funding, mentorship, and extensive resources. The program aims to accelerate the development of innovative ventures, driving economic prosperity and creating high-value jobs.
MAP's unique approach is centred on providing a high-performance environment, focusing on mindset, accountability, and the holistic development of founders. Unlike many other accelerator programs, MAP offers equity-free funding of $20,000 per startup, ensuring founders retain full ownership of their companies while benefiting from significant support. Participants gain access to dedicated office space, tailored workshops, and an invaluable network of mentors, Entrepreneurs in Residence, alumni, and industry leaders, both local and international. The program primarily serves early-stage startups with high-growth potential, including those affiliated with the University of Melbourne, and actively encourages applications from ventures with a strong social impact or those addressing climate challenges.
Over more than a decade, MAP has been a catalyst for extraordinary success, transforming ambitious startups into industry leaders. To date, the program has supported over 100 startups, which have collectively raised more than $250 million in investments, generated over $200 million in revenue, and created upwards of 1,500 new jobs. MAP's commitment extends beyond the accelerator itself, with additional programs such as the Velocity pre-accelerator for earlier-stage founders and the Franklins, a network specifically for female founders, further enriching Australia's startup landscape. The program culminates annually in a Demo Day, where the cohort showcases their progress to investors and the wider entrepreneurial community.
