LuminaX HealthTech Accelerator

LuminaX HealthTech Accelerator is a prominent Australian accelerator based in the Gold Coast, dedicated to fostering the growth and commercialisation of early-stage health technology startups. Launched in 2021 by Cohort Innovation Space, it provides comprehensive support encompassing investment, extensive networks, and crucial resources to help companies build globally successful ventures. The accelerator operates from the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct, a purpose-built community that promotes collaboration between startups, hospitals, universities, and research facilities, enabling participants to test and refine their solutions in real-world healthcare settings. LuminaX's mission is to invest in and support Australia’s most innovative health startups, striving to create a world-leading healthtech ecosystem.

Designed for early-stage Australian HealthTech startups, LuminaX targets companies that have a minimal viable product (MVP) or are beyond the ideation stage, demonstrating proven traction, existing customers, or an early product. The program offers an intensive 12-14 week in-person accelerator, which includes high-impact workshops, one-on-one coaching, and tailored mentorship from a network of over 40 industry leaders, clinicians, experts, and entrepreneurs. A key differentiator is the provision of $50,000 in-kind program support without taking any equity, alongside potential cash investments of up to AUD 200,000 for selected ventures. This unique model helps founders retain ownership while gaining invaluable support.

Since its inception, LuminaX has accelerated the growth of 52 Australian HealthTech startups, assisting them in raising over $33 million in funding through its extensive investor network. The program has facilitated connections between founders and more than 1,000 clinicians, executives, and industry leaders, offering guidance from experts in health, technology, and capital. Notable achievements include a reported 90 percent of supported startups achieving at least 3x growth post-program, highlighting the accelerator's effectiveness in commercialisation and scaling. LuminaX is also an ESIC Certified Accelerator, providing significant tax incentives for early-stage investors in accepted startups.

The accelerator's focus areas are broad, covering biotechnology, medical devices, AI-powered health solutions, digital health platforms, mental health, wellness, and sportstech. There is an increasing emphasis on preventative health, with recent cohorts featuring innovations such as predictive blood tests for postpartum depression and non-invasive AI heart disease screening. The program is supported by major partners including Economic Development Queensland, the City of Gold Coast, and QIC, along with industry partners like Griffith University and Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service. The leadership team includes Director Dren Xerxa and CEO Ben Howe (of Cohort Innovation Space), who drive the strategic vision and operational excellence of the program.
