Write a ReviewAbout GCI Funds
GCI Funds, officially known as Global Credit Investments, is a specialist private credit fund manager based in Sydney, Australia, with a significant presence across Australia and New Zealand. Founded in February 2015 by Steven Sher and Gavin Solsky, the firm emerged to address a crucial market gap following the Global Financial Crisis, where stricter bank lending regulations created a demand for more flexible and alternative funding sources. GCI Funds provides bespoke capital solutions to mid-market businesses, high-net-worth individuals, and family offices, acting as both a credit provider to borrowers and an investment opportunity for investors.
The firm distinguishes itself through an entrepreneurial mindset, offering what it terms 'Transformational Credit'. This approach is built on five key pillars: flexibility, speed, insights, advice, and a robust network. GCI Funds aims to unlock significant value for its borrower clients by working through complex situations and providing fast, tailored financing solutions that enable businesses to achieve growth, manage acquisitions, navigate turnarounds, or secure liquidity without extensive equity dilution. This dedication to offering flexible and responsive capital solutions is a core differentiator in the private credit market.
GCI Funds offers three primary innovative funding solutions: Asset Backed Finance, Real Estate, and Strategic Capital. Through these offerings, they cater to a diverse range of scenarios, including financing for non-bank lenders, secured loans against physical or financial assets, and capital for mid-sized businesses undergoing complex growth or restructuring. Their focus remains on the underserved mid-market, typically providing transactions between $5 million and $50 million, where traditional banks often struggle to lend due to a lack of 'cookie-cutter' underwriting suitability.
Key achievements include the successful closure of their $125 million Strategic Capital Fund 2 in April 2026, which followed the full deployment of the $100 million Strategic Capital Fund 1 launched in December 2024. Since the inception of its strategic capital strategy, GCI Funds has deployed over $420 million across 34 transactions, demonstrating their capacity to execute and scale. The leadership team is spearheaded by co-founders Steven Sher (Managing Director) and Gavin Solsky, with Ben Skilbeck appointed CEO in July 2024. Their experienced team brings local and international financial and entrepreneurial expertise to every engagement. Other notable team members include Hugh Selleck as Managing Director for Strategic Capital, and Investment Directors Daniel Schweickle, Alexander Corder, and Robert Grajczyk.
As GCI Funds celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2025, it reflected on its journey and the evolution of private credit in Australia, noting the sector's quadrupling of assets under management over the past decade. The firm continues to adapt its investment strategies and expand its team, building long-term relationships with advisors and borrowers who increasingly view private credit as a valuable alternative to traditional finance. GCI Funds is committed to maintaining its disciplined underwriting and deep understanding of borrower needs to deliver commercial solutions for both its clients and investors.
