Enactus Melbourne is a dynamic student society based in Melbourne, Australia, dedicated to fostering social entrepreneurship and creating a positive, sustainable impact globally through local action. Affiliated with the international Enactus network, which was established in 1975, the Melbourne chapter empowers university students to develop and launch social impact startups. Their core mission involves applying business principles to complex social problems with the aim of improving society for current and future generations.
The society operates as a 100% non-profit, student-run organisation, and is recognised as the leading club at the University of Melbourne for initiating student startups. What distinguishes Enactus Melbourne is its strong emphasis on hands-on project development and practical experience, rather than solely focusing on theoretical discussions or panel events. They provide an extensive support network, connecting students with experts from academia and industry to help transform innovative ideas into tangible social enterprises. This includes running the EnAccelerator, the University of Melbourne's only student-led, semester-long startup incubator program, which guides participants from ideation to developing a minimum viable product.
Enactus Melbourne serves a diverse cohort of University of Melbourne students from all faculties and year levels, cultivating a welcoming and inclusive community. Beyond project work, the society fosters a tight-knit community through weekly committee meetings, dinners, and social events, ensuring a supportive environment for personal and professional growth. They aim to empower students to build their own businesses, enact social change, and gain real-world skills transferable to various career paths.
Key achievements highlight their impactful work. In 2024, Enactus Melbourne won first place in the Enactus National Competition, subsequently representing Australia on the world stage in Kazakhstan. Their flagship project, EnAccess Maps, exemplifies their success. Founded by Sabrina Leung in 2021, EnAccess Maps is an initiative that bridges the gap between accessibility and awareness for mobility aid users, helping businesses enhance inclusivity. To date, EnAccess Maps has secured over $100,000 in equity-free funding and achieved $12,000 in monthly recurring revenue. Other notable projects include Momento, which delivers personalised written media for elderly relatives with dementia, and GradCap, designed to provide straightforward career information for students.
The leadership of Enactus Melbourne comprises an executive team and various directors, with Aidin Liu currently serving as President. The society also has dedicated project leaders for each of its social enterprises, such as Jayden Thai and Eva Zhu for EnAccess Maps, and Anya Hoodbhoy for Momento. These student leaders, alongside academic and business mentors, drive the society's initiatives and uphold its commitment to social impact through entrepreneurial action.
