Write a ReviewAbout iAccelerate
iAccelerate is a leading startup accelerator and incubator situated in Wollongong, Australia, operating as a flagship innovation and entrepreneurship hub of the University of Wollongong (UOW). Established originally as the 'iAccelerate initiative' in 2011, the purpose-built iAccelerate Centre officially opened in July 2016, a significant step in galvanising the Illawarra region as an innovative economic hub. The program was partly modelled on the successful Accelerator Centre in Waterloo, Canada, aiming to transform Wollongong's traditional industrial economy into a thriving knowledge and innovation centre.
iAccelerate offers a comprehensive suite of programs and support services for businesses at various growth stages, from nascent ideas to scaling enterprises. This includes a pre-accelerator program ('Activate'), an accelerator program ('Accelerate'), and an ongoing residency ('Advance'). Participants benefit from integrated education, dedicated mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs and industry experts, access to UOW's world-class resources, research, equipment, and student talent. The accelerator fosters a vibrant entrepreneurial community, providing co-working spaces and opportunities for networking and collaboration.
A key differentiator for iAccelerate is its profound commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The organisation actively supports founders from all backgrounds, including women, regional entrepreneurs, social enterprises, and individuals in STEM. Notably, approximately half of all iAccelerate-supported companies include at least one female founder, significantly surpassing national industry averages. This dedication was recognised with the 2025 ACEEU Global Triple E Female Entrepreneurship Empowerment Award. In addition to programmatic support, iAccelerate facilitates access to capital through a $10 million seed fund for resident startups and a philanthropic Entrepreneurial Fund offering scholarships and grants.
Under the leadership of Director Dr Tamantha Stutchbury, iAccelerate has achieved substantial impact since its 2016 inception. It has supported over 522 startups (with some reports indicating over 600 companies), created more than 1,182 new jobs, injected over $161.7 million into the regional economy, and helped startups secure $126 million in investment. The latest reports in 2024 highlight over $416.5 million in sales and investment generated by resident companies since 2016. These achievements underscore iAccelerate's role in cultivating a dynamic and inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem that drives economic growth and innovation within the Illawarra and beyond.
