Write a ReviewAbout I2N Accelerator (Healthtech)
The I2N Accelerator (Healthtech) is a specialised programme operating under the University of Newcastle's Integrated Innovation Network (I2N), a unit dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship and venture development in the Hunter and Central Coast regions of Australia. Established in 2016, I2N has almost a decade of experience supporting innovators, entrepreneurs, and startups. The Healthtech stream specifically targets tech-enabled entrepreneurs developing innovative healthcare solutions, including those in healthcare delivery, assistive technologies, and procedures designed to improve quality of life. The accelerator aims to help founders validate, build, and scale their ventures, transforming innovative ideas into investment-ready businesses [3, 4, 5, 29].
The program is distinguished by its strong regional focus and comprehensive support system, consistently ranking as Australia's most recommended regional accelerator program by Startup Muster [3, 4, 6, 28, 29]. It serves founders at the pre-startup to early-stage, pre-Series A phase, with no prior affiliation to the University of Newcastle required, provided their venture is headquartered in the Hunter or Central Coast regions [3, 23, 24, 26]. The I2N Healthtech Accelerator provides participants with hands-on experience through weekly workshops covering essential topics such as milestones, storytelling, marketing, branding, product strategy, growth hacking, and capital raising. Founders also receive weekly coaching from a dedicated Entrepreneur in Residence and industry mentors, along with access to investor pitch nights and a demo night [5, 17, 19]. The program is a cornerstone for diversifying the region's economy and creating sustainable opportunities for future generations [3, 4, 6].
A key differentiator for the I2N Healthtech Accelerator is its dedicated program partners, connecting healthtech founders with extensive networks and funding opportunities through the Central Coast Health & Wellbeing Living Lab. All participants also benefit from initial intellectual property and trademark support from Davies Collison Cave [3, 4, 6, 7]. The Integrated Innovation Network, which encompasses the Healthtech Accelerator, has a notable track record, having accelerated and incubated 188 teams, raising over $62.7 million in funding, and creating more than 280 jobs since 2016 [4, 29]. The Pre-Accelerator program, a preparatory phase, boasts a Net Promoter Score of 96, indicating high participant satisfaction [12].
The leadership within the broader I2N initiative, under which the Healthtech Accelerator operates, includes Siobhan Curran, who serves as the Acting Director of Knowledge Exchange and Entrepreneurship. Ms Curran was recognised as the Entrepreneurial Leader of the Year at the 2023 Asia Pacific Triple E Awards, further highlighting the program's strong leadership and commitment to fostering innovation [16, 28, 29]. The accelerator is held at the I2N Hub Honeysuckle in Newcastle, a purpose-built headquarters designed to support the entrepreneurial ecosystem [3, 8, 27]. I2N fosters a close-knit community of entrepreneurs and innovators, supported by a network of accessible mentors and a culture of genuine collaboration [13, 29].
