I2N Accelerator (All-Industries)

The I2N Accelerator (All-Industries), an integral part of the University of Newcastle's Integrated Innovation Network (I2N), is a Newcastle, Australia-based accelerator program designed to guide early-stage, tech-enabled startups. It provides a structured experience to validate business ideas or solutions efficiently and prepare ventures for investment. The program encompasses hands-on learning, expert-led workshops, and dedicated coaching, fostering an environment where innovative concepts can evolve into commercially viable enterprises. Participants benefit from a robust support system, including subject matter expert insights, industry mentorship, and weekly coaching from an Entrepreneur in Residence, alongside opportunities for peer network development and access to I2N perk partner benefits. The accelerator primarily serves pre-startup to early-stage startups that are headquartered in the Hunter or Central Coast regions. It targets founders who are leveraging technology to deliver new-to-market products or services and are at a pre-Series A funding stage. A key differentiator of the I2N Accelerator is its inclusive approach, welcoming founders regardless of their affiliation with the University of Newcastle. This broad accessibility, coupled with a strong regional focus, ensures that high-potential ventures across diverse sectors receive the necessary support to thrive locally and scale globally. The program also provides crucial intellectual property and trademark support through partners like Davies Collison Cave, without claiming ownership over the IP generated by participants. Since its establishment in 2016, the Integrated Innovation Network (I2N) has significantly contributed to the entrepreneurial landscape of its region. It has supported 188 startups and small businesses, which collectively have raised over $62.7 million in capital, created 280 jobs, and contributed $44.1 million in wages for the Hunter and Central Coast. The I2N Accelerator has consistently received national recognition, being named Australia's most recommended startup accelerator by Startup Muster in 2024 and 2025. This accolade underscores its effectiveness in nurturing high-impact ventures. In 2024, I2N also won the prestigious Innovation and Entrepreneurship Activators of the Year award at the Asia Pacific Triple E Awards, highlighting its leadership in fostering innovation.

The program's comprehensive structure includes a 13-week accelerator phase, often followed by an optional incubator phase, ensuring sustained support for founders beyond initial acceleration. Weekly workshops cover essential topics such as milestones, storytelling, marketing, branding, product strategy, growth hacking, startup financials, capital raising, and pitching. These sessions are complemented by investor pitch nights and a significant Demo Night where ventures showcase their progress to the broader startup ecosystem. The I2N's vision is to make the Hunter region Australia's best ecosystem for startups, achieved by harnessing unique regional resources to empower innovators.
