Scoring Methodology
The Founder Signal Awards are determined entirely by data from verified founder reviews. No panel of judges. No pay-to-play. Here is how it works.
How scores are calculated
Each entity in a category receives a composite score between 0 and 1, calculated from five weighted dimensions. The entity with the highest composite score wins the category, with second and third places awarded as Runner Up and Honourable Mention.
All data comes from Founder Signal, where verified founders review the service providers they have actually worked with. Reviews are verified by Batko before being published.
The five dimensions
Average Rating (40%)
The mean rating across all approved reviews, normalised to a 0-1 scale. This is the heaviest weight because the quality of service, as perceived by founders, is the most important signal.
Review Volume (25%)
The number of approved reviews relative to the most-reviewed entity in the same category. More reviews mean more data points and higher statistical confidence in the rating.
Recency (15%)
The proportion of reviews received in the last six months relative to total reviews. This ensures that awards reflect current performance, not just historical reputation.
Reviewer Diversity (10%)
The ratio of unique reviewers to total reviews. A higher diversity score indicates that the entity is serving a broader range of founders, not just repeat engagements.
Response Rate (10%)
The proportion of reviews that have received a response from the entity. Entities that engage with founder feedback demonstrate accountability and a commitment to improvement.
Minimum thresholds
To be eligible for an award, an entity must have a minimum of 5 approved reviews from verified founders. This threshold ensures that scores are based on a meaningful sample size rather than a handful of outlier reviews.
The minimum threshold may be adjusted for categories with fewer participants, at the discretion of the awards committee.
Why data-driven (not pay-to-play)
Most industry awards are sponsored. Companies pay to be considered, judges are hand-picked, and the results reflect who has the biggest marketing budget rather than who delivers the best service.
The Founder Signal Awards are different. Every score comes from verified founder reviews on Founder Signal. There is no submission fee, no panel of judges, and no way to buy a better ranking. The only way to win is to deliver great service to founders who then leave honest reviews.
Category sponsorships exist to fund the awards programme, but sponsors have zero influence on scoring or results. Sponsorship and awards are completely independent.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pay to be nominated or win an award?
No. Nominations come from founders and scoring is entirely algorithmic based on real review data. There is no pay-to-play mechanism.
How are reviews verified?
Every reviewer must verify their identity through Founder Signal's onboarding process. Reviews are then checked by Batko before being approved and published.
What if my company does not have enough reviews?
Entities need a minimum of 5 approved reviews to be eligible. Encourage your clients to leave honest reviews on Founder Signal to build your profile.
Can I embed the award badge on my website?
Yes. Winners and runners up receive an embeddable badge with a link back to their Signal profile and the awards results page.
When are the awards announced?
The Founder Signal Awards are announced annually, typically in November. Follow Michael Batko on LinkedIn for updates.
